I bought this book in 1996 from a Half Price in Austin for the sole purpose of having something to occupy my time on a plane to Italy. I was ten and my dad had gotten a job in Catania, Sicily so we went over for Christmas and then again for the summer. It was well loved when I got it but most of the wear and tear is from my rereading and toting it all over the world.
The current Stephen King favorite is IT but this book is my favorite of his huge collection of writing. There was a remake of Pet Sematary not too long ago and while I found it an interesting take and appreciated some elements of the book that the 1989 version left out, the original movie will always be the best for me. Also, Dale Midkiff, amiright?

This book creeped me out when I was a kid, of course, but it has staying power in that there is something to terrify everyone here. Now that I am a parent the obvious horror is based in losing a child and what you would do to have them back. Also, this book introduced me to the RAMONES. They are another lifelong love.

I’ve read that King put this story away for a while because he found it too disturbing and I can see why. It’s still an amazing book and I look forward to reading it every time I pick it up. If you want to grab your own copy, just click the cover below and it helps us both!
